TVA Lakes
Tennessee Valley Authority was created in 1933
to construct a system of dams and lakes on the
Tennessee River, the nation’s fifth largest river
system, to improve navigation and control floods.
Four dams located in Northeast Tennessee are
open for public viewing during daylight hours.
The TVA system of lakes provides not only power
for Northeast Tennessee, but offers vast recreational
opportunities as well. Hundreds of miles of shoreline
and thousands of acres of water await the fisherman,
boating enthusiast, camper and nature lover.
